Where to get my bunny

This topic is something I wish I had known more about before I got my two bunnies, so I will share everything that I have since learned. Your first option should be adoption; there are so many bunnies that have been mistreated and neglected and are now in need of a loving home. I guarantee if you search up bunnies for adoption near me, multiple rescue centres will pop up with hundreds of in-need bunnies of all ages and breeds.

I recommend UK residents check out rescues like Blue Cross, The Bunny Jackpot Foundation, and Bunny Angels.

If for some reason this is unattainable, of course there is the option of purchasing your bunny from breeder, but I would recommend you make sure that the bunny is from an ethical breeder and not a breeding farm as this can take a toll on the state of the bunny as it may have health issues if the mother has been bred from a young age. I would never recommend purchasing from a pet store or large chain store as the bunnies in these are being mistreated and bred in a cruel way. Large pet stores often do not know of existing health conditions in these bunnies and that can affect the life span of the bunny.

Why are pet stores sometimes so bad?

Large pet stores often claim to know everything about pets, but in reality, they often lack proper knowledge. They provide bad advice and sell items that aren’t suitable for pets. For instance, many stores suggest keeping rabbits in cages, which is not right. Rabbits need space to hop and run to be healthy.

Additionally, buying a rabbit from these large chain stores is not a good idea because many of them have been mistreated from a very young age. Some rabbits are taken away from their mothers when they are only four weeks old, just because they look cute and are easy to sell. However, rabbits should stay with their mothers until at least eight weeks to get the right nutrition and develop the appropriate social skills. Taking them away from their mothers too soon can harm their health and immune system.
